Is This You?

  • Sudden body jolts, images or panic when something reminds you of the past

  • Avoiding places/conversations because your system spikes or shuts down

  • Knowing the story logically but still feeling flooded or ashamed

  • Sleep problems, nightmares or startle responses that won’t let up

  • Relationship patterns that make sense “on paper,” but you keep reacting as if you’re back there

EMDR in Plain English

When something overwhelming happens, the brain can store it incorrectly in an easy to trigger form. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps your brain reprocess those memories so the intensity drops. We pair brief sets of bilateral stimulation (eye movements/taps/tones) with a structured protocol. You stay in control, we go at your pace and you can pause anytime.

What EMDR Sessions Look Like

  1. Preparation & Safety: We build grounding, containment and a plan for pacing so sessions feel tolerable.

  2. Targeting: We choose one “target” at a time (a memory, image, body sensation, belief) and set the frame.

  3. Reprocessing: In short sets, you notice what arises (thoughts, feelings, body sensations) while I guide bilateral stimulation. Your brain does the organizing; we don’t force detail.

  4. Installation & Body Scan: We strengthen more adaptive beliefs and check that your body also feels the shift.

  5. Closure & Next Steps: We end grounded, note any between-session care, and plan the next target.

When I Blend EMDR

Between EMDR sessions, we’ll use ACT/CBT to reduce avoidance and build small, doable steps that keep momentum. For intimacy that gets impacted by memories or body reactions, we’ll layer IFS, EFT or Sex Therapy practices so change occurs in real time.

  • No. EMDR can be effective without sharing any detail. You choose what to share and can pause anytime.

  • Yes. We adapt bilateral stimulation for telehealth (visual cues/taps/tones) and prioritize safety and pacing.

  • It varies. Single incident targets can shift in weeks; chronic/complex trauma takes longer. We review progress regularly.

  • Often, yes. As the charge drops, many people report fewer spikes, better sleep and less reactivity in relationships. EMDR can also be adapted to treat specific phobias.
